Rolfing® sessions are tailored to each client’s unique body, history, and goals. Lasting transformation is most often experienced through the Ten Series—a progressive, step-by-step process where change unfolds gradually over time (see below), although one-off sessions to address specific problems can also be valuable. If you’re unsure about committing to the full series, the first session is a great place to start. It offers a clear experience of the work and lays the foundation for what’s to come, allowing you to decide whether to continue based on how your body responds. Whether it’s a single session or the beginning of a deeper journey, each session meets you where you are.
The Rolfing Ten Series
Rolfing® Structural Integration is best experienced as a process—a gradual unfolding of change within the body. The traditional Ten Series is a progressive and holistic journey that reorganizes the body in gravity. Each session builds upon the last, forming a complete arc of transformation.
Think of the Ten Series as one session divided into ten parts. Each session is an entry point into the whole—methodically addressing different layers, regions, and relationships within the body. Rather than chasing symptoms, we engage the deeper patterns that shape how you stand, move, and relate to yourself and the world.
What happens in the session is only part of the process—equally important is the time between sessions. The body needs space to absorb, reorganize, and integrate the changes initiated during each session. Fascia, the connective tissue we work with, responds and remodels gradually—even days or weeks after hands-on work has ended. This ongoing unwinding and adaptation is an essential part of the process, allowing the changes to become truly embodied and long-lasting.
The Three Mini-Series
The Ten Series is divided into three broad phases:
Sessions 1–3:
The Sleeve Sessions
These sessions work with the more superficial layers of connective tissue. The focus is on opening the body, improving breath, and beginning to restore length and space. We create the foundational openness needed for deeper work to follow. In this phase, we also begin to define the body in three-dimensional space—front to back, side to side, and top to bottom—while establishing the sleeve as the container that will later support and organize the core.
Session 1
Opening the Breath
Establishes ease and space in the rib cage, shoulders, and diaphragm. Begins the body’s relationship with gravity through breath.
Session 2
Finding the Feet & Foundation
Brings awareness and support to the feet and lower legs. Begins aligning the base of the body with gravity, allowing for improved bilateral support.
Session 3
Lateral Line & Organization Through the Side Body
Connects upper and lower body, and brings coherence to the whole “sleeve”—the outer wrapping layer of the body.
Sessions 4–7:
The Core Sessions
These sessions dive deeper, addressing the central architecture of the body and unwinding deeply held patterns. The core refers to the deep structures near the spine, pelvis, and abdomen that provide postural integrity, inner support, and coordination. During these sessions, we help the body find stability from within—freeing the outer layers for more fluid, balanced movement.
Session 4
The Medial Line of the Legs
Accesses the deep structures of the inner legs and pelvic floor to support an uplifted, grounded core.
Session 5
The Pelvis & Psoas
Works with the hip flexors, lower abdomen, and deep abdominal complexes to align the pelvis and lower spine.
Session 6
The Back Line
Unwinds long-held tension along the spine and sacrum, creating support from the back of the body.
Session 7
The Head, Neck & Jaw
Brings the cranium into alignment with the rest of the spine and body. Addresses imbalances in the jaw, neck, and head, while balancing the relationships between the head, neck, and torso for greater overall organization and ease.
Sessions 8–10:
The Integration Sessions
This final phase integrates the changes from the previous sessions, weaving together sleeve and core into a coherent, adaptable whole. These sessions are customized based on your individual needs and the story your body tells.
Session 8 or 9
Lower or Upper Body Integration
These two sessions initiate the integration phase, where structure and function begin to come together through movement and coordination. One session focuses on the lower body—balancing the hips, legs, and feet in gait—while the other addresses the upper body, integrating the arms, shoulders, and ribcage into the whole system. The order is determined by the individual’s needs and where integration will be most effective at this stage.
Session 10
Full Body Completion
A synthesis of the entire process. This session unifies the body as a coherent whole, weaving together all previous work to support a more integrated and embodied presence. It provides a sense of closure, allowing the client to step back into daily life with greater awareness, alignment, and the opportunity to continue integrating the changes initiated throughout the series.
This is a Process, Not a Fix
Rolfing® isn’t about “fixing” the body—it’s about repatterning it to relate more intelligently with gravity and itself. As we go through the series, your awareness, movement, and posture begin to shift from the inside out. This is not a passive process. It’s a journey.
You’ll leave with not only a different body, but a different relationship to your body.
One-Off Sessions
While the Ten Series offers the deepest and most lasting results, I also offer one-off sessions for those seeking:
a taste of Rolfing before committing to a series
help with a specific area of tension, posture, or movement
integration work for returning clients
combining manual work with somatic education
These sessions are collaborative and tailored to your current needs. Whether you’re dealing with pain, wanting to improve posture, or simply curious, a single session can offer clarity, relief, or a starting point for deeper work.
